小蓝和小黄是一对好朋友，一起游戏，一起上课。
一天，小蓝趁妈妈出门的时候，溜出去找小黄。从家里找到外面，找了许久，才在一个角落里找到了小黄。小蓝和小黄惊喜地拥抱在一起，越抱越紧，结果融合在一起变成了“绿”。“绿”去了公园，钻隧道，爬山，后来累了，就回家了。
可回到小蓝家，小蓝的爸爸妈妈认不出来了：“哎呀，这个‘绿’不是我们家的小蓝呀。”回到小黄家，小黄的爸爸妈妈妈也认不出来了：“哎呀，这个‘绿’不是我们家的小黄呀。”
“绿”很伤心，流下了蓝色和黄色的眼泪，哭呀哭呀，最后全都变成了蓝色和黄色的眼泪，蓝眼泪集拢到一起变成了小蓝，黄眼泪集拢到一起变成了小黄，两个人高兴了：“这回爸爸妈妈不会认不出来了！”
小蓝和小黄先回到小蓝的家，小蓝的爸爸妈妈高兴地拥抱小蓝，又拥抱了小黄，结果变成了绿色。直到这时，爸爸妈妈才总算明白是怎么一回事了。于是，他们一起去小黄家报告这个好消息，两家的父母高兴地拥抱在一起，也变成了“绿”。而小黄和小蓝，则在外面和好朋友一直玩到吃晚饭。
Little Blue and Little Yellow are best friends, but one day they
can’t find each other. When they finally do, they give each other
such a big hug that they turn green! How they find their true
colors again concludes a wonderfully satisfying story told with
colorful pieces of torn paper and very few words. Leo Lionni
launched his children’s book career in 1959 with Little Blue and
Little Yellow, and this 50th-anniversary edition, complete with
Lionni’s own explanation of how the book came to be, is sure to
resonate with children today.

Leo Lionni, an internationally known designer, illustrator, and
graphic artist, was born in Holland and lived in Italy until he
came to the United States in 1939. He was the recipient of the 1984
American Institute of Graphic Arts Gold Medal and was honor
