Margaret Wise Brown, author of Goodnight Moon and The Runaway
Bunny, is one of the best-selling children''s book authors of all
time. Her unique ability to see the world through a child''s eyes
gave a new and enduring dimension to picture-book writing. Another
Important Book is the companion to her classic picture book The
Important Book, illustrated by Leonard Weisgard and first published
in 1949.
玛格丽特·怀斯·布朗，1910年出生于纽约。“怀兹”是英文“聪明”的音译。玛格丽特正是一位绝顶聪明、才华横溢的传奇女子。她不但为孩子写了10多本童书，更与一群好友一起为儿童文学的教育、创作与出版开拓出影响深运的天地。虽然她从来没有结过婚，也没有自己的孩子，但是她却对孩子，特别是幼儿期的孩子的心理、情绪和兴趣有着深刻的认识。她擅长用精简、游戏性、有韵的优美文字来铺陈故事，不但能深深打动孩子的心，更能开发孩子的想像力，让他们创造出自己的诗文。1952年，42岁的玛格丽特在法国旅行途中突然逝世。
克莱门特·赫德（Clement
Hurd），1908年出生于纽约。耶鲁大学毕业后，去巴黎学了两年现代绘画，回国后成了一名装饰画家。后来他结识了玛格莉特等儿童文学工作者，并且和其中的一位作家艾达结婚。玛格莉特在看到了他的两幅作品之后，就极力劝说他为图画书画插图，并特意为他写了一个儿童故事《大象和小甲虫》，让他做一次插图上的尝试。
