随着我国国际贸易的发展，服装外贸跟单成为了服装国际贸易业务中一个细分的工作岗位，跟单员负责实施对整个生产过程的跟进以及服装出口和售后服务的跟踪，其岗位业务涉及面广，业务流程复杂，服务对象情况多变，因此服装外贸跟单从业人员需要拥有扎实的专业知识结构、过硬的职业外语能力以及较强的综合业务技能。为切实提升服装外贸跟单员的综合素质，满足服装外贸行业的用人需求，中山职业技术学院艺术设计学院服装设计专业的教学团队在总结多年教学实践经验的基础上编写了本教材。
该教材作为艺术设计学院服装设计专业课程改革系列教材之一，具有以下三大特点：
第一，实用性。该教材为校企合作合编教材，以典型服装外贸产品为主要学习场景，内容选取紧贴服装外贸现实，教学案例均来自企业跟单实例、生动活泼、真实度高，能够全真重现企业工作的实际过程，从而为学生带来更丰富的实训体验，充分激发学习兴趣，让教学更接地气。
