"
I was born with a desire to make friends and learn about other countries and cultures. As a young boy, I lived in the Middle East, England and the United States, learning to appreciate and love the beauty and contributions of other people. I studied a number of languages e.g. French, Spanish, Italian, German, Latin until I discovered the timeless and historically-dense Chinese character.
It is no secret that learning Chinese is one of the hardest tasks a foreigner can undertake. The first few years were very difficult and stressful. However, along the way, I found a method that broke me through the lower and intermediate-levels of the language: reading and reciting short stories, comics and moral tales.
It is also no secret that infusing study with meaning and pleasure enhances learning. Humorous, meaningful and moral tales, such as the adventures of Silly Piglet, engage you like no school textbook can. There is a saying in the world of sport that a famous athlete will never acquire his skills just from schooling, but from the playground too. It is the exact same in language-learning.
In my own experience as a foreign language teacher of Chinese, Italian and English, it is clear that the most successful students have always been those who found pleasure and hobbies in the foreign language.
Let this bookSilly Piglet Limited Chinese-English Bilingual Version, and Yang Hongyings many other writings, take you to a new level of competency in English, even as you smile and learn the greater lessons of life."
