Monday妈妈教会我独立
真题品读
(天津高考)
One night, when I was eight, my mother gently asked me a question I would neverforget. “Sweetie, my company wants to promote me but needs me to work in Brazil. This islike your teacher telling you that you’ve done well and allowing you to skip a grade 跳级,but you’ll have to leave your friends. Would you say yes to your teacher?” She gave me ahug and asked me to think about it. I was puzzled. The question kept mewonderingfor therest of the night. I had said “yes” but for the first time, Irealisedthetoughdecisions adultshad to make.
For almost four years, my mother would call us from Brazil every day. Every eveningI’d eagerly wait for the phone to ring and then tell her every detail of my day. A phone call, however, could never replace her presence and it was difficult not to feel lonely at times.During my fourth -grade Christmas break, we flew to Rio to visit her. Looking at herlarge emptyapartment, Ibecame aware ofhow lonely my mother must have been inBrazil herself. It was then that I started to appreciate the tough choices she had to makeonbalancingfamily and work. Faced with difficult decisions, she used to tell me, youwouldn’t know whether you made the right choice, but you could always make the best outof the situation, withpassionand a positive attitude.
Back home, Iremindedmyself that what my mother could do, I could, too. If shemanaged to live in Rio all by herself, I, too, could learn to beindependent. I learnt how totake care of myself and set high but achievable goals.
My mother is now back with us. But I will never forget what the experience has reallytaught me.Sacrificespay off in the end. The separation between us hasprovedto be ablessing for me.
